Modern RC jets use turbine engines. Inside the engine is a single shaft and two hybrid bearings connected to a compressor rotor on one end and a turbine rotor on the other. These bearings have an RPM rating of roughly 30,000 to 140,000 RPMs. To cool the bearings during operation, they must be sprayed with an oil mist. The bearings should be changed after 6-7 runs to prevent bearing fatigue

The ceramic ball on the right is not only much lighter and impervious to corrosion, but also much more resistant to impact. Ceramic bearings earn their reduced friction due to much tighter roundness tolerances as compared to even the best steel bearings.
